Big Shot: Billy Joel to perform the first-ever concert at Baltimore’s Oriole Park at Camden Yards

Mike ColucciBilly Joel’s movin’ out of Madison Square Garden and into Baltimore, Maryland’s Camden Yards, where the Orioles play…at least for one historic show.

For more than 25 years, the team owners have resisted hosting concerts at Oriole Park, insisting that it be baseball-exclusive. But now, the organization has relented: On July 26, Billy will perform the first-ever standalone music concert there.

The Orioles Charitable Foundation will donate a portion of the proceeds from the show to support music and arts education programs for kids in Maryland and the surrounding region.  Tickets go on sale January 18 at 10 a.m.

According to the Baltimore Sun, the Angelos family, which owns the Orioles, has repeatedly rejected attempts to book concerts at the park. Peter Angelos told The Sun in 2000 that he was, “not going to have [Camden Yards] become some kind of honky tonk for various and sundry rock ‘n’ roll bands.”

In another milestone, on April 26, Billy will play his first concert ever at Miller Park in Milwaukee, where the Brewers baseball team plays. It’ll be his only Midwest performance of 2019. Tickets for that concert also go on sale January 18.

Billy, who turns 70 on May 9, has also announced shows this year in Orlando, FL; Phoenix, AZ; Philadelphia, PA; and London, England, in addition to his regular Madison Square Garden residency in New York City.
