Lady Gaga caught the acting bug, and Sia is currently directing her first film. Will Katy Perry be the next pop star to explore the film world?
In a new cover story with W Magazine, the singer says she’s been approached for different movie projects but they’ve never been quite right.
“I really love being the captain of my ship,” she says. “If I were to do a film, I’d probably have to direct it. I’d love to do a musical! But that will come in time.”
In the meantime, Katy’s content to pour her emotions into the music she writes. She even admits to crying to her own songs because they’re so personal.
“Sometimes they are about people who are no longer in my life, or they’re about unrequited love,” she explains. “I started out on tour last time and I couldn’t perform a couple of the songs on the record because I was just too upset.”
Right now, though, Katy’s just feeling liberated. That’s partly thanks to her new, shorter haircut, and partly because she’s decided to embrace her 30s.
“I feel so liberated with this hair now,” she says. “In general, I feel 360-degrees liberated — all around. Whether it’s politically, mentally, spiritually, sexually.”
She adds, “To get to this place, I had to do some much-needed work on my heart, soul, mind, and body. Since doing that, a lot of beautiful things started to bloom again.”
Katy’s cover issue of W helps launch the magazine’s augmented reality experience. The issue features 3D visual effects and AR-enhanced imagery and videos that you can access on W’s Beyond the Page app.
